Surface Stories

A collection exploring colour, texture and the expressive possibilities of clay

These works began as tests — whakamātau in coloured slips, terra sigillata, and surface treatment. But the more I layered, scraped, cracked, and patched, the more they began to speak. Each one holds its own kōrero: a mark left, a texture exposed, a moment held in place. Like weathered fabric or worn bark, they don’t try to match — but they belong together.

He kōrero i te mata — stories written not in words, but across the skin of clay.
