Ngā Kete o te Wānanga

The Baskets of Knowledge

These hand-built vessels are inspired by the kōrero of Tāne and Ngā Kete o te Wānanga, the Three Baskets of Knowledge in Te Ao Māori. Built using a fine coiling technique, each vessel reflects the idea of a container for knowledge, experience and learning. The bronze and copper surfaces are highlighted with blue-black accents that emphasise the rhythm of the coils. A small coloured sphere accompanies each vessel, representing the individuality that each of us brings to our own journey of learning.

Mā te rongo, ka mōhio; mā te mōhio, ka mārama; mā te mārama, ka mātau; mā te mātau, ka ora.

Through listening comes knowledge, through knowledge comes understanding, through understanding comes wisdom, through wisdom comes wellbeing.
